School Time Reading Fluency Passages

Today I wanted to chat a little about reading fluency and how we are working it into our lessons. Fluency means that students can read as well as they speak. When we talk about fluent readers we are talking about readers who do not need to think about reading, they simply just read. It comes naturally. When student reread passages they get more from what they are reading within the passage. They may read it faster, they may find a detail they missed, or they may connect more with the characters. Students will grow to love reading as they see themselves as readers.

This product has reading passages for back to school. It has passages that relate to the classroom. They have five to eight sentences per passage. If each passage is used for weekly reading fluency, that is six weeks worth of reading practice for students in grades 1 to 3.

School Time Reading Passages

There are seven ways to use these passages.

Option 1: The first option is the passage with questions. With a border.

Option 2: The second option is the passage with questions. Without a border.

Option 3: The third option includes the passage, a space for drawing, word count, and a space for teachers to record the amount of words read.

Option 4: The fourth option includes the passage, word count, and a space for teachers to record the amount of words read.

Option 5: The fifth option includes the passage, word count, and a space for teachers to record the amount of words read. As students read they can shade in the bubbles under the words of unknown words. Then they can write these words on note cards or separate paper to practice throughout the week.

Option 6: The sixth option includes the passage on six different interactive notebook flaps. Glue them layered together, or on a single page as copy work.

Option 7: The seventh option is for your interactive notebooks. It has the word count, questions and recording space for the amount of words a student can read.

Pick and choose what option you want to use for each passage for your students.

All passages are in black and white.

Interactive Notebook option for passages includes the reading passage with word count, recording space for teachers/parents, build a word tabs and passage questions. The images can be colored if desired.

Word work includes ABC order task cards. Students can record their responses three ways. They can write them in on worksheets that include the words on the task cards (eliminating the need for the task cards). Students can use task cards and record their responses with two pages of recording worksheets. The third way is an ABC order cut and paste center. It use half sheets of paper and includes all 16 task cards.

Another word work activity includes, "Name the Picture" A few ways to use this for centers. Students can name the picture on a worksheet by writing it, or pasting word tiles. Use word tiles (with different fonts) to create columns. My little one is so thrown off when fonts look differently. For example when the letter is missing the line next to it he assumes it is a different letter. We are seeing the same word in different fonts helps him visually. You can print two sets of the word cards and play concentration. Last option, are naming the picture in a sentence. Read the sentence and pick the word (by using cloth pins) that the image shows.

Also included are word to know cards for the passages, word work worksheets, and images of how to use I used the product with my little ones. To see School Time Reading Fluency you can visit my Teacher's Pay Teacher's store.

Plan with me Sunday July 5th

Have you been stressed lately? Are you thinking about what needs to be done? There never seem to be enough hours in the day! With my four little ones, time slips away. To reduce stress and set goals it is time to start planing my day. This week I am linking up with Kreative in Kindergarten and Keeping up with Mrs. Harris for Plan with Me Sunday.

I know I need to start planning more for my blog posts, and creating products. I created a planner. I intend to use it more for business then a personal planner. It's simple and I can keep it in a binder with all my product planning, notes etc. I've always used blank notebooks and loose leaf paper, its a habit that I know I won't be able to stop doing. I  added this to my planning binder, it makes usable where I can add it whenever I need it.

This week I am working on keeping track of products by creating product catalogs. I wanted something that I can add to on a yearly basic. If you have different categories for the types of products you have, then you can have more then one product catalog. You can fit three categories on a 3 ring binder. Or you can keep them in a coupon pouch and store in a file cabinet.

If you are want to organize your products catalog you can grab this for free.

Next week, I will share how I am organizing my blog posts.

How about a chance to win a $50 gift card from Michaels? How can you say no to that! You can't, I know. Let us help you get organized this summer.
